Now to the imagery. The man on the path is walking through life faced with two overarching choices represented by the image on his right and on his left. And in front of him the path leads to light. In the broadest sense, the choices available to us when it comes to the deeper meaning of our life is either the traditional “Christian” church life represented by the pews found in most churches or a life of godlessness as is the condition of the atheist.
Granted, there are people who live their lives walking that fine line between faith in God and a life centered on self. Agnostics who on the one hand believe in a “higher being” or “higher power” while on the other hand cannot or will not recognize the written word of God as just that, the written word of God. Now, I understand that in today’s American culture, there are Buddhists, Hindus, Taoists, Mormons, Muslims, etc. The church scene on the right simply represents the predominant “path” to God offered by American culture. All I’m trying to depict are the extremes of the spectrum defined by the deepest existential question of our life; “Is there a god?”
If you search for the answer to this question beyond these choices, and seek to know God based solely on His own testimony, you will find light…
Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of god.
